Leadership

Meet the team driving Wine Beyond Borders

Bryan Mekechuk

Founder | Chief Executive Officer

Bryan Mekechuk is a Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Wine Beyond Borders, where he leads company strategy, portfolio development, and wine positioning for the U.S. market. He brings together deep experience in global business strategy with direct, on‑the‑ground involvement in winegrowing—an uncommon combination that informs both brand building and producer partnerships.

Bryan began his career at Ernst & Young, qualifying as a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA/CA) before transitioning into management consulting in the Silicon Valley. Over the course of his management consulting career, he advised multinational corporations and emerging companies on strategy, operations and financial performance. His work took him across Europe, Latin America, Asia, and Australia, shaping a global perspective that continues to guide Wine Beyond Borders’ international focus. He holds a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Alberta and an MBA from the University of Western Ontario.

In addition to his strategic leadership role at Wine Beyond Borders, Bryan is a General Partner in a boutique vineyard in La Consulta, Mendoza, Argentina, a historic and highly regarded sub‑region of the Uco Valley. The 11.3‑hectare vineyard was originally acquired by a group of investors in 2009, and Bryan assumed the role of General Partner in 2023. The vineyard has 8.9 hectares of Malbec and 2.4 hectares of Cabernet Sauvignon, reflecting a focused commitment to varietals that express La Consulta’s elevation, alluvial soils, and traditional viticultural strengths.

This firsthand involvement in vineyard ownership and management gives Bryan a producer’s perspective—grounding his work in the realities of farming, long‑term capital investment, and vintage variation. At Wine Beyond Borders, that experience translates into a pragmatic, sustainability‑minded approach to portfolio curation, brand authenticity and go‑to‑market strategy in the U.S.

Bryan’s work is guided by a belief in long‑term brand building, responsible growth and aligned partnerships across the three‑tier system. A long‑time wine enthusiast, he combines analytical discipline with genuine passion for place, people and the stories behind the wines.

He resides in Northern California and enjoys time with family, mountain biking and exploring wine regions around the world.

David Staab

Founder · Import Operations · Tasting Panel

David Staab is the Founder of Wine Beyond Borders, where he leads the company's mission to responsibly and transparently bring distinctive wines from emerging and underrepresented regions into the U.S. market. David's work is grounded in a strong foundation in import logistics, regulatory compliance, and operational execution, ensuring that every wine in the portfolio can move efficiently and legally from producer to market without compromising authenticity.

David holds a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) from Northwestern University and an MBA from Santa Clara University. His professional career spans both individual contributor and management roles in the semiconductor industry, where he worked on product definition and development, customer‑facing software tools, and technical customer support. This background instilled a disciplined, systems‑oriented approach to complex problem‑solving—skills he now applies directly to the highly regulated and operationally demanding world of wine importing.

As head of import operations, David oversees the full regulatory and logistical process for Wine Beyond Borders. His responsibilities include working directly with producers and exporters, coordinating freight forwarding and customs brokerage, managing TTB permitting and label approvals (COLAs), and ensuring compliance across federal and state requirements, bonded warehousing, and distribution interfaces. His hands‑on involvement enables Wine Beyond Borders to partner effectively with small and family‑owned wineries that often need guidance navigating the U.S. alcohol regulatory environment.

David was first introduced to fine wine while studying at Northwestern University, an experience that sparked a passion that has persisted ever since. In addition to his operational role, he serves on the Wine Beyond Borders tasting panel, where he evaluates wines for authenticity, balance, and expressive sense of place, while also considering real‑world readiness for compliant import and successful market entry.

David founded Wine Beyond Borders with the belief that great wine importing depends on the intersection of passion and precision—where cultural respect and sensory quality are supported by strong processes, regulatory rigor, and operational clarity. Through this approach, he continues to build an importer designed to scale responsibly while honoring the producers and regions it represents.
